- <p> The President was getting a bit behind. While First Lady
- Barbara Bush frequently travels with a laptop and keeps her
- diary on a disk, George Bush remained computer illiterate,
- pecking out his notes on a manual typewriter in two-fingered
- fashion. But now he's trying to catch up. Last week the
- Commander in Chief tapped on his first personal computer, hooked
- up in a study near the Oval Office. Bush will take lessons from
- a White House expert at least once a week, and has made learning
- to use his own computer a personal goal "to prove no one's ever
- too old to learn." But he hasn't set his sights too high. "I
- don't expect this to teach me how to set the clock on the VCR
- or anything complicated," says the President.
